Blogmas Day 9: Where is the Christmas Spirit?

We are officially 16 days away from Christmas. This is my favourite time of year but this is my first Christmas that I’m an employee. Well, this is my first real job so it’s not like I expected to get Christmas break as I would in College – wouldn’t be such a bad idea, sigh. I just never thought about how working and Christmas would work out in my schedule.

I’ve been away from work from last Wednesday and it has been the happiest week of my life – not my life but it has been a great week. I haven’t done much because I had businesses to manage and I did just that with my time. I don’t know how I feel now that I have to go back to work tomorrow and it’s the busy season.

While growing up, I was excited for all the new clothes my mother would send for me for the holiday season. That was one thing that I look forward to the most. I would always ask “what’s wearing this Christmas?” Now, I’m wearing whatever I see in my suitcase. I’m no longer “fussy” about Christmas fashion.

I’m honestly not a huge fan of sorrel, fruit cake or even ham but I do enjoy a good Christmas dinner (yes you can revoke my Jamaican citizenship for not loving those). I do eat fruit cake but it’s not something I get excited about. As for the ham, I grew up in an Adventist home. I’m excited to see what’s on the menu this Christmas at home. If curry goat and pot roast beef are not at the Christmas dinner, I’m not staying *this is a hint for my dad*.

I’m not going to say I’m from a weird family but there is a house in Runaway Bay that my dad drives to see every year because of their decorations. It is a part of our Christmas tradition and I hope they decorate this year. On our way there, we always stop at the famous pudding stop in Priory.

Other than my gifts and Christmas dinner, I don’t know what I’m excited about this season. What are you excited about? Do you have the Christmas spirit?

Thank you for reading and I will see you tomorrow! ‘Tis the season to be jolly …

I do not have the Christmas spirit this year, well the one people technically have as it relates to gifts, decorations and food. I’m honestly hoping the gifts I’ll receive are not physical or tangible just spiritual and emotional gifts.
I don’t eat ham either and fruit caskes are not my thing so now I’m only Jamaican-ish 😅

I don’t feel the Christmas spirit either but I’m trying to make the most of it. For some reason I want just a traditional Christmas with all the meals I’d get back home. It will be my first Christmas on my own so let’s see what’s in store. I’m not big on fruit cakes either but for some odd reason I’ve been asking ppl to get me a cake from the infamous “Miss Donna” but tries have been futile so I’ll settle for whatever I get.
